Room: live capture you can Just Ask later

August turned live sessions into Room — captions, notes, files, and a library you can actually find later. Just Ask got sharper sources and retrieval, your items show what they connect to, and email saves keep their styled layout.

New

  • Room — A full-page live session with captions, notes, and files. After you save, Just Ask the hour with sources — what was decided, what was on the board, what you marked important. Named rooms show up with your other captures instead of hiding under Voice.
  • Just Ask can see your captures — When you ask about a receipt, whiteboard, screenshot, or other photo in your library, Just Ask can use the image itself — not only the text we extracted.
  • Student access — Verify a .edu email for student status. Everyone else on Starter gets three Room sessions to try, then a clear upgrade prompt.

Improved

  • Smarter Just Ask — Source chips only appear when Just Ask actually used a capture. It finds proper names and emails more reliably, pulls in linked neighbors, coaches you when nothing is saved yet, and formats schedules more clearly.
  • Connected in your library — Open an item to see related captures — linked items, same-session saves, and similar topics — and link items yourself when you know they belong together.
  • Email previews that match Gmail — Saving from the Gmail add-on (or Outlook in the extension) now keeps the styled HTML body — layout, buttons, and images — instead of plain text with raw tracking links.

Fixed

  • Tab recordings that wouldn’t play — Chrome and desktop no longer upload tiny, unplayable WebMs from a failed tab capture.

CapturedIt · July 2026

A library that feels like yours — including on Safari and Mac

July locked the apps together: biometric sign-in on phones, private capture in Chrome, Safari that connects on the first try, and a smoother Mac first launch.

New

  • Face ID / fingerprint lock — iPhone and Android can require biometrics to open CapturedIt, with the same account you use on the web.
  • Private capture in Chrome — Mark a save as private at capture time, without a trip through settings first.

Improved

  • Safari Connect — The Mac App Store build asks for permissions in the popup and stores the key so Connect works the first time.
  • Mac 0.2.1 — Onboarding appears on first launch, and the “connected” page looks like CapturedIt. One-click connect is the default path.
  • Playback on phones — Images and audio load on first open instead of sitting on a blank preview.

Fixed

  • iOS processing that never clears — Pull to refresh, polling, and Live Activities now agree when AI is actually done.
  • MCP and SDK parity — Ask and capture behave the same from Claude, Node, and Python as they do in the apps.

Mac 0.2.1

Smoother first launch and a branded connect experience

Polish release — the setup window shows up the first time you open the app, and the connect page now looks like CapturedIt.

Fixed

  • Onboarding opens on first launch — The setup window now appears front and center the first time you open the app after installing — no more opening it twice.
  • Branded connect page — The “Connected to CapturedIt” browser page shown after linking the desktop app now matches the CapturedIt look instead of plain text.
  • More reliable first-run window — First-run window presentation is more reliable on slower first launches (Gatekeeper verification, cold start).

CapturedIt · June 2026

A Mac app that stays open, and voice you can trust

June made the desktop app launch on macOS, turned voice into something you can replay, and pulled text out of scanned PDFs.

New

  • Play audio in the library — Voice notes play inline in lists and search instead of forcing a download.
  • Just Ask from a link — iPhone and Android can open a Just Ask question from a link, the same way the web uses ?q=.

Improved

  • Voice capture that recovers — If a recording hiccups, CapturedIt keeps the segments, warns you about silence, and can still retrieve the note.
  • Scanned PDFs — Every page can be OCRed, and older items can be sent through AI Assist again if the first pass was blank.
  • Chrome tab recording — v1.0.1 holds up better on video-heavy pages so the capture isn’t an empty file.

Fixed

  • Mac launch crashes — CapturedIt opens on current macOS, shows up in the menu bar, and you can quit or uninstall it without a stuck process.
  • Previews match on phone and web — Videos aren’t mislabeled as images, and iOS library sync doesn’t sit forever on an empty backfill.

CapturedIt · May 2026

Clearer errors, a smoother extension connect, and Learn

May was a reliability month — fewer cryptic failures, a Chrome connect flow that actually finishes, and guides when you want the long version.

New

  • Learn articles — Guides and compare pages for how CapturedIt fits next to cloud storage, plus a cleaner reading layout.

Improved

  • Chrome and Safari sign-in — Connect waits until the key is saved, and a failed key shows a short “reconnect” hint instead of a wall of error text.
  • Voice capture diagnostics — Web can tell you when the mic isn’t actually capturing, and native recording is a bit more resilient.

Fixed

  • Errors you can act on — Failed saves and sign-in problems now use plain language across web, Mac, and iPhone — not internal codes.
  • Free accounts go straight to capture — After you sign up, you land on capture instead of wandering the marketing site.

CapturedIt · April 2026

Android, Slack, and a Mac app that can actually record

April was the month CapturedIt showed up on more devices — and started taking email, Slack, and richer files in one library.

New

  • Android app — A full native app with Just Ask, library thumbnails, and the same captures you already save on the web.
  • Slack — Save from Slack with /capturedit, shortcuts, and App Home — each Slack user links their own CapturedIt account.
  • Email and extra file types — Forward a message to save it, drop in .eml files, and capture HTML, JSON, CSV, spreadsheets, and video that we transcribe.

Improved

  • Mac screen, mic, and region capture — Record what you see, hide the window while you do it, and pick a region instead of the whole display.
  • Chrome tab recording — The extension popup can record the tab you’re on, not just save a link.
  • Just Ask on iPhone and Android — Answers look like the web (markdown, refresh), and weekly digest plus related items stay in sync.

Fixed

  • PDFs in the library — Grid and list thumbnails show up on iOS, and scanned pages get another look when the first pass misses the text.

CapturedIt · March 2026

Capture from the browser, and ask your library from anywhere

March put CapturedIt in Chrome and Safari, landed Just Ask on your library, and opened the door for Claude and other MCP clients.

New

  • Chrome and Safari extensions — Save the page, a link, or a quick voice note without leaving the tab — including Drop Audio and an in-popup mic.
  • MCP, Node, and Python — Connect Claude or your own tools with OAuth, and capture or search through the Node and Python SDKs.
  • Download pages for every app — Find Chrome, Safari, iOS, and Android from one place instead of hunting through settings.

Improved

  • Just Ask reads more of your library — Hybrid search and date windows mean answers can pull the right notes, not just the latest ones. Ask output now renders as readable markdown.
  • Smarter capture on the go — The phone UI respects the Dynamic Island and safe areas, and the screen stays awake while you record or upload.

Fixed

  • Billing and onboarding mix-ups — Existing subscribers land in Billing instead of a second checkout, and the first-run tour is less likely to get stuck.
