Browser extension capture: save the web without leaving your tab

How to use the CapturedIt Chrome and Safari extensions to save links, selected text, and full pages — with AI processing on capture.

The browser is where most research starts. A good capture extension removes friction: one click to save a link, a selection, or a full page — with AI summaries generated in the background. Here is how to set up and use CapturedIt's Chrome and Safari extensions.

Install the extension

Sign in with your CapturedIt account when prompted. The extension syncs with your web dashboard and mobile apps automatically.

What you can capture

Save the current page

Click the CapturedIt icon to save the URL. AI processing extracts the article text, generates a summary, and assigns categories. Works on articles, documentation, product pages, and most public web content.

Save selected text

Highlight a passage, right-click, and choose CapturedIt from the context menu. Useful for quotes, code snippets, and key paragraphs you want searchable without saving the entire page.

Save full page content

For pages where the URL alone is not enough — paywalled previews, dynamic content, or pages that may change — save the full rendered page as a capture.

AI processing options

By default, AI runs on capture (summaries, categories). You can switch to manual mode in settings and tap “AI Assist” per item instead. This matters on Starter, where AI credits are limited to 10 per month — manual mode lets you choose which saves get processed.

Tips for a clean library

  • Save intentionally. Not every tab needs archiving. Capture what you will reference later.
  • Use selection capture for quotes. Keeps your library focused instead of duplicating full pages.
  • Check summaries. AI occasionally mischaracterizes technical content. A quick glance after capture catches errors early.
  • Pin the extension. Keep the icon visible in your toolbar for one-click access.

Beyond the browser

Extension captures sync to the same library as mobile saves, email forwards, and API writes. Search and Just Ask work across all of it. For the full capture picture, see the universal capture workflow.

Install the extension

Available for Chrome and Safari. Free Starter plan includes 50 items and 10 AI processes per month.
