How to connect Microsoft Copilot to your CapturedIt library

Connect Copilot to your personal knowledge base with the Context Hub OpenAPI schema and API key — search saved research from Microsoft 365 workflows.

CapturedIt Team·

Microsoft Copilot excels inside Word, Excel, and Teams — but your web research, bookmarks, and screenshots often live outside M365. Connecting CapturedIt brings that personal library into Copilot conversations via the Context Hub API.

What Copilot can do with your library

  • Search your saved links, notes, and files by topic
  • Pull summaries and content into Copilot responses
  • Answer questions grounded in sources you chose to save
  • Save new items back when your API key has write access (Vault)

Copilot in M365 documents and CapturedIt are complementary: keep deliverables in OneDrive, use CapturedIt for everything you research on the open web.

Prerequisites

  • CapturedIt Vault plan
  • Microsoft Copilot with support for custom connectors or OpenAPI actions (availability varies by plan and tenant)
  • CapturedIt API key with Search and Read context scopes

Setup steps

  1. Create an API key: Dashboard → Security → create a key with Search and Read context. Copy it immediately.
  2. Open Copilot connector settings: In Copilot or Microsoft 365 admin tools, add a custom connector or API integration that accepts OpenAPI and API key (Bearer) auth. Menu names vary — look for “Connectors,” “Plugins,” or “Actions.”
  3. Import the OpenAPI schema from URL: https://api.capturedit.app/api/v1/openapi.json
  4. Configure authentication: API key, header Authorization, Bearer token = your CapturedIt API key.
  5. Add usage instructions: Tell Copilot to call your library when you ask about saved research, competitors, or personal notes.

Schema URL and setup hints are also on Dashboard → Connections → AI assistants.

Verify it works

Try prompts that require your library:

  • “What have I saved about our Q3 pricing research?”
  • “Find CapturedIt items related to Azure deployment.”

Copilot should invoke the API and return real items — not fabricated references.

Troubleshooting

  • Connector option missing: Custom OpenAPI connectors require specific Copilot or M365 licenses. Check with your IT admin or use Claude/ChatGPT connectors as an alternative.
  • Authentication errors: Regenerate the API key and update the connector. Confirm Bearer format: Authorization: Bearer YOUR_KEY.
  • Empty search results: Items marked private are excluded. Confirm captures exist and are accessible.
  • Tenant policies block external APIs: Work with your Microsoft admin to allow the connector domain api.capturedit.app.
