How to connect Slack to CapturedIt

Step-by-step guide to add CapturedIt to Slack. Use /capturedit to search, save, and ask AI about your library from any channel.

CapturedIt Team·

Slack is where teams discuss ideas — but great links and decisions often get buried in threads. Connecting CapturedIt to Slack lets you search your library, save URLs and notes, and ask AI about your captures with /capturedit, without switching apps.

What you get after connecting

  • /capturedit — view your latest captures
  • /capturedit search <query> — search your library from Slack
  • /capturedit save <text or URL> — save to your library instantly
  • /capturedit ask <question> — ask AI grounded in your saved content

Each teammate connects their own CapturedIt account. Commands always use your library — never a shared team library.

Prerequisites

  • CapturedIt Vault plan (Slack integration requires API access)
  • A CapturedIt account with the email you use in Slack
  • Permission to install Slack apps in your workspace (or ask a workspace admin)

Setup steps

  1. Sign in to CapturedIt and open Dashboard → Connections → Apps.
  2. Click Add to Slack on the Slack card. You are redirected to Slack to approve the app.
  3. Choose your workspace and authorize CapturedIt. Slack returns you to CapturedIt with a connected status.
  4. Open any Slack channel and type /capturedit to confirm the slash command is available.

Verify it works

  1. Run /capturedit save https://example.com in a channel or DM.
  2. Open CapturedIt → Library and confirm the new item appears within a few seconds.
  3. Run /capturedit search example — you should see matching results from your library.

Troubleshooting

  • Slash command not found: Wait a minute after install, or reinstall from Connections → Apps. Workspace admins may need to approve the app first.
  • Access denied during OAuth: You cancelled or lack install permissions. Ask a Slack admin to approve CapturedIt for the workspace.
  • Session expired: If OAuth fails with an invalid state error, click Add to Slack again from a fresh browser tab.
  • Wrong library results: Each user must connect individually. Teammates see only their own captures.
  • Vault required: Upgrade to Vault if the Apps tab is unavailable or shows a plan gate.

Frequently asked questions

Does Slack access my whole workspace?

No. CapturedIt only responds to /capturedit commands you invoke. It does not read channel history or messages unless you explicitly save or ask about content.

Can I disconnect Slack?

Yes. In Dashboard → Connections → Apps, click Disconnect on the Slack card. You can also remove the app from Slack's installed apps settings.

How is this different from email-to-save?

Email-to-save (save@inbound.capturedit.app) works from any mail client. Slack is interactive — search and ask AI in real time. See the email capture guide for that workflow.
